Books and rules and rules and books

Probably the most thing we do is buy books and rules.( Apart from increasing our lead collection that is)

It's that trap that I know sends me to consider buying more figures. You get the book, you read the book and before you know your scouring the web for the figures. Have I changed.

Have I hell !!!!

I recently bought this book.
Now I have been looking for this for some time. Hopefully this won't be another turkey. I don't think so. Here is 2 extracts from the inside flap.

"Perceptions on both sides of the border will be reshaped by Robert Ryal Miller's account of American Soldiers who deserted to fight in the Mexican army.
Miller uncovers the reasons for these desertions, presenting the soldier's stories as they are revealed in records of the time. Many of these deserters were immigrant Irishmen."

" Fifty were executed ; otherswere whipped and branded. The leader of the group , John Riley , was branded with a D on both cheeks. The Mexcian government , on the other hand, viewed the men of the Saint Patrick's Battalion as heroes, awarding them honours and errecting a monument to them."

Fortunately this time I won't be adding to my lead collection as I already have enough. Now there was also a film made" One Man's Hero" starring Tom Berenger as John Riley. It's never been released here as far as you know and in the end I bought it as a double bill with " Never talk to strangers".

I know tagged with another movie. Never a good sign but I think I will watch it again now.

As for rules well me and Gordon recently attended Highlander games where we had a look while a local Hordes competition took place. Anyway bought the rules.
It is actually quite good and the figures do look good but are not cheap. Hordes is a game of cunning stategy, brutal tactics, and epic clashes between forces of snarling , supernaturally destructive warbeasts, battle-hardened warriors, and elite mages.  Thats there words but it did look alot of fun and they were great minis.

Payday today. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
MEET THE SMURFS !!!

Well trollbloods actually. On initial inspection some mold lines and I will have to pin some joints but I look forward to painting them. Even the blue skin.

However at present I am surrounded by French who will be finished before anything else. Even those Germans for Force on Force.

Work in progress

I thought I would post some pictures of what is currently on the painting table.
First up is ACW Command figures. I had completed the Confederates some time ago but never did the command. So this time around I though I would do these and then do the rank and file.

Progress on the 10mm Elves from Kallistra. I have done a few more and started work on the chariots. It's getting there slowly as usual.
This is for the American artillery in the Mexican/American War. The gun and figures are complete so this the last in the puzzle. There is another 2 to put together.
Again still sticking with the Mexican/American War of 1846 these are the Mississipi Rifles. Still alot to do for these but I have only started 4 so that I can do a test base. I have alot of figures for this period mostly from 1st Corp. I will leave you with a completed unit but I promise you will see more.

No where to run to baby, No where to hide (Lizard riders 2)

Well that was a first. Reached my break point. Well actually exceeded break point on Round two and then failed my command roll so. GAME OVER.

How ?

Got completely done over by a drop ship filled with marines and artillery rounds. Totally wiped out my centre including my CO. That was it pretty much over. The Lizard Riders all save on 6's so there was not much joy there. I did save all 3 hits once. Marines save on 4's.

Mass destruction. Oh yeah. Will I use them again. Of course.

At least I forgot my camera. Oh bugger Gordon remembered his.

Force on Force

Well it arrived today. Force on Force by Ambush Alley Games/Osprey Publishing. 224 page hardback book. The first thing you notice is it not A4 size but rather a very slightly smaller compact book. Handy for carrying around. I like that. It covers alot of different topics.
So you got the usual rules covering movement and fire but you also have night fighting, dependants, air mobile operations, close air support, dog teams etc. Far too many too mention but backed up with a quality layout and Osprey pictures.
Now before you start thinking this is all going to be pretty complicated its actually not. It uses a different dice to note troop quality and morale and the universal mechanic of rolling 4 or better. It adds and subracts dice for the different situations and covers regular v regular forces or regular v irregular forces. Very much a full package with campign rules, sample organisations and 4 scenarios to play added in.

More supplements to follow but who says you have to buy them all.
Now if you excuse me I would like to read it in full for a more detailed look at it.

Lizard Riders by Micro World games

As promised here is the Lizard Rider army based for Future War Commander. I am actually quite impressed by the way they turned out. The figures are fantastic and the service from MicroWorld games was great as well.

I particularily liked the bases as I still have Japanese for Blitzkrieg Commander II to do. I was not so sure what to do with them but this has given me hope. Mind you still got to paint them all first.

Anyway here is the eye candy.
                                         Command base
A selection of the HQ bases.

                                         Ceratops
                                          Stegosaurus

                                          Para Missile

                                          Dino Infantry

                                          Raptor Dragoons. My favourite.

                                          Recon

A few shots of the T Rex.
So here it the Lizard Riders that GordonY is facing very shortly. Now time for a song.

"What you gonna do? What you gonna do? When they come for you ?"

I'm back !

Well I have been a victim of modem failure but the new one has been installed and I'm back.

So a short update on progress. First of all the Lizard Rider army is all finished including the basing. I have based more Kraytonians and have extra bases for the ones that are left to paint. Also carried on with the elves.

Still not bought anything although I was given a gift of not one but two Warmaster armies from Pendraken.

Late Roman and Sassinid Persian.

I will take picures later this week and get them posted. (Not the new armies)

Painted : 129
Bought : Still nothing as they were a gift.
